A Slow Morning and an Unexpected Break
Day 76 began with unexpected news that caught everyone off guard. Due to heavy rain pouring relentlessly all night long, all schools were closed, which meant my winter vacation effectively started today, much to my surprise. Even though I had carefully planned to indulge in sleeping in and enjoying the warmth of my blankets, my body, as it often does, woke me up early out of habit. It was very cold, almost chilly, but I still took a cold shower and did my breathing exercises, relishing the calmness and freedom of the quiet morning, which seemed to stretch out infinitely before me.
Later around noon, after a brief period of quiet, I decided to go back to sleep and took a refreshing nap that felt like pure bliss. After waking up, I treated myself to a very good meal that satisfied my hunger and took my supplements, including omega three, which I never skip, while preparing mentally for the evening training ritual that I always looked forward to.
Evening Training Without the Coach
I headed to the gym, brimming with anticipation, expecting a wrestling and MMA training session, but for the first time, the coach did not show up unexpectedly. Instead, a top student led the session. There were only about eight of us in attendance, which made the atmosphere quieter and more focused, like a closely-knit family instead of a chaotic crowd.
We started with a shortened warm-up that included exercises such as running, sprawls, punches, rolls, and acrobatic movements that really got the blood flowing. The warm-up and stretching combined lasted around twenty-five minutes, which felt much shorter than usual yet effective. We stretched everything: the hands, legs, back, and neck, then moved into shadow wrestling which involved lots of sprawls and knee slides, serving as a testament to our growing skills.
After that, we immediately began close guard work, dissecting techniques and strategy. Each round was five intense minutes with one minute of rest in between to catch our breath and reset our focus. We completed about three rounds of this rigorous practice before the another coach arrived and kindly invited us to join a jiu-jitsu class that was starting shortly after. Several people left to join him, leaving only a few of us behind, eager to continue honing our skills.
Choosing Recovery Over Pushing Too Far
The jiu-jitsu coach personally invited me to continue the session, but I knew my limits better than anyone else. My legs, especially my left thigh and calf, were extremely sore from the rigorous training sessions I had been pushing through recently. I felt very close to cramping, and even walking became rather uncomfortable. The combination of yesterday's training, leg movements, and running had clearly caught up with me, turning my enthusiasm into caution.
Instead of forcing myself to stay in the practice despite the nagging discomfort, I made the decision to leave and prioritize recovery, knowing how essential it is for long-term progress. I wrapped up my workout around nine, took my whey protein and creatine, and headed home, feeling a sense of satisfaction despite the early departure. Despite the cold nature of the evening, I took a cold shower, enjoyed a delicious and nutritious meal, and allowed myself to fully rest, knowing that it was a wise choice.
Starting next week, I plan to add magnesium supplements to support recovery and enhance muscle health as part of my regimen. Today served as a valuable reminder that progress also means knowing when to slow down and listen to one's body, a skill that proves to be just as important as pushing through challenges.
Day Seventy Six Lesson
Discipline is not only about showing up and pushing harder every single day; it sometimes entails listening to the body's signals and making the smarter choice for the sake of long-term sustainability. Respecting recovery today is what protects and ensures consistency tomorrow. The journey ahead is long, and pacing actually does matter immensely.
Day 76 complete. The grind continues.
