Starting the Day With Clarity

Day 99 began on a calm but reflective note. I did not wake up particularly early, but I slept well enough to feel balanced and ready to face the day's challenges. As usual, I started the day with a cold shower, which always feels invigorating. It grounded me immediately and helped me focus my mind and center my thoughts on what lay ahead.

One very positive sign was that the pain in the back of my neck and head had completely disappeared. That felt like a small but significant victory for my overall well-being. However, my wrist, right thumb, and knee were still bothering me, each of them serving as a reminder that I am not entirely free from discomfort. Not sharp pain, but rather a persistent ache that subtly reminds me that my body is not fully healed yet, and I must treat it with care.

After getting ready, I enjoyed a solid breakfast. I took great care in choosing clean food, making sure to portion everything properly, and not neglecting my usual supplements. I combined Omega 3 and D3 K2 with my meal, followed by L Citrulline, zinc, collagen, and vitamin C. Nutrition felt intentional today, something I had planned meticulously and not just rushed through without thought.

The Long Trip to the Gym

The gym I was heading to was far from home, which always requires a bit of planning. It took nearly an hour and a half to get there, but that time allowed me to mentally prepare. It is one of the biggest gyms in the city, and walking in always feels different from smaller facilities. The space, the sheer number of athletes around, and the overall energy remind you that everyone there is serious about their craft and dedicated to improvement.

I arrived on time, punctual as always. Shortly after, my coach and several teammates arrived as well, each of them contributing to a familiar environment that helped settle my nerves. Seeing familiar faces in such a big setting brings a sense of comfort, a camaraderie that makes even the most daunting workouts feel a little less intimidating.

Conditioning and Circuit Work

We started with cardio to get the blood flowing and heart rate up. Treadmill running provided just the right intensity, followed by shadowboxing which allowed me to loosen up and feel the rhythm of my movements. Then came more skipping and more shadowboxing, each round feeling progressively more intense. The pace kept building gradually, and I could feel my body waking up as I prepared for what was ahead.

After that warm-up, we moved into circuit training. I was excited yet slightly anxious as we lined up six different exercises to be repeated three times. Each one demanded focus and effort, requiring not only physical strength but also mental grit.

In our circuit, there was box jumping for explosiveness, which always gets my adrenaline pumping. Aerobike work pushed my endurance to its limits, while hip and hand drive movements aimed to build power in my strikes. We incorporated running drills, designed to keep the heart rate high and the energy soaring. Additionally, there were ball strikes using explosive force, testing both my speed and control. Finally, we engaged in a metal bar drill where we punched six times on the right, six times on the left, continuously until time ran out and sweat dripped down my face.

We worked in groups of four or five, the energy in the air palpable as everyone pushed hard. No one complained; there was a unified spirit among us that made the challenge of the workout feel more manageable.

Combinations Sparring and Core Work

After the rigorous circuits, we moved into combinations. The drills started simple at first, then progressed to more complex patterns. Repetition mattered more than speed, ensuring that each movement was precise and deliberate, as precision mattered more than sheer power.

Later, we did light sparring. I stayed cautious, especially with my right hand, wary of stress on my injury. I avoided using it as much as possible, though even that restraint couldn’t entirely prevent me from feeling the fatigue building up from the physical exertion.

We ended the session with core work. Abs, stability, and control were our focuses. At the very end of our training session, we took photos together, capturing moments of camaraderie and hard work. Two full hours had passed, and despite the pain and fatigue lingering within me, I felt that the session was meaningful and worth every effort.

Difficult News About the Tournament

Originally, I had planned for this to be my last boxing session before resting and recovering for the tournament that I was looking forward to. I had believed with confidence that the competition was two weeks away, which would give me ample time to heal and prepare myself both physically and mentally.

Then I received unexpected news that shifted everything dramatically. The tournament was moved forward by a week! It would now take place next week, leaving no room for error in my recovery.

That changed everything. I could feel a wave of disappointment wash over me.

With my thumb and elbow still injured, full recovery would not be possible. On top of that, participation required gym registration through a coach. You cannot sign up alone, which all but confirmed it: I would not be competing despite my eagerness and desire. It was disappointing. Deeply. But also realistic, as much as it hurt to accept.

I looked around at the level of other amateurs training that day. Many of them were sharp, fast, and experienced, an intimidating standard that reminded me of just how high the bar was set. Maybe this was not my moment yet, and that realization weighed heavily on my heart.

Conversations Beyond Training

After training, I did not go home immediately. Instead, I chose to linger a bit longer with my boxing coach, my Muay Thai coach, and one of my gym partners. We had coffee together in the gym café and engaged in meaningful conversation that stretched beyond just training.

These conversations mattered greatly. They were grounding as I shared my thoughts and feelings regarding my training progress and upcoming challenges.

We spoke deeply about training philosophy, competition, and the importance of focus. My boxing coach gave me honest advice that I needed to hear. He told me that because I train in MMA, Muay Thai, and boxing, my boxing sometimes looks unfocused, as if I have not fully committed to its identity. His words resonated with me.

He was right, even if it stung to hear. It was not criticism meant to shatter my spirit. It was guidance—a nudge in the right direction.

Even the bump on my forehead from earlier sessions had started to heal, though it was still tender and reminded me that recovery cannot be rushed, no matter how eager I feel.

Ending the Day With Acceptance

When I finally went home, disappointment lingered like a shadow. Not because I could not compete, but because deep down, I wanted to prove something significant to myself. Still, I knew forcing it would only make things worse, both physically and mentally.

By the end of the day, my right hand felt slightly numb. That confirmed my decision: Rest is no longer optional, it is a necessity.

I shifted my focus on nutrition, hydration, and relaxation, understanding that these factors play a key role in my healing process. Before bed, I took magnesium and allowed myself to fully shut down, mentally and physically, preparing for rest.

Day 99 ended quietly. Thoughtful. Heavy. Honest. It was a day filled with lessons and realizations.

Day 99 Lesson

Today reminded me that progress is not always about stepping into competition. Sometimes, it is about stepping back, listening carefully to your body, and accepting that timing matters as much as effort. Injuries, disappointment, patience, and the ability to truly recognize the process are all integral parts of this journey.

Day 99 complete. Perspective gained, ego checked, and the grind continues with clearer intent.
